Maurice Mbikayi uses mixed media to portray his views on racial and ethnic identity in Africa. This piece shown on One Source Live is untitled and is part of his extensive photography collection. It shows his ‘Techno Dandy’ alter ego, as does many of his other Africa art works, wearing a jacket made from discarded keyboard pieces. His work examines the renegotiation of borders and identities offered by virtual space while also offering a critique of the wasteful practices needed to produce this technology both in Africa and across the globe. He uses his self-made fashion pieces as a form of resistance and speaking out against these practices. Vote for the art you need the world to see.
